Maintenance Instructor
Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

Develops and administers training programs to educate Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) mechanics and inspectors to introduce new hires with company policies and procedures that are related to their job function as specified in the General Maintenance Manual (GMM). 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Develops, updates and delivers General Maintenance Manual (GMM) training for new hires, required OHSA, Hazcom and Safety Related Courses, Aircraft Systems Courses, Qualification & Recurrent Qualification Courses, etc. Instructs Aircraft System Introductions and troubleshooting courses and prepares the mechanic and inspector with the needed knowledge to enter the work environment.  Prepares and administers course records and test completions, as well as audits records for accuracy. Participates in research and development of newsletters. Provides technical leadership to team and department members.  Leads through example; monitors, influences and trains others.  Provides input to Manager on performance reviews and helps to identify development needs. Performs various other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE       

Associate’s degree (A.A.) in Aviation with at least 3 years of experience. 

Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics Certificate is required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors degree (B.A. / B.S.) or equivalent in Aviation with at least 5 years of experience.

Classroom Instruction experience.

Skills in Microsoft Word, Office and Adobe Suite preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

           

REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

DECISION MAKING

Makes limited decisions and determines best methods to solve problems by referring to established precedents and policies.  Impact of decisions is moderately low.

PHYSICAL AND VISUAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Ability to walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl under 35 of the time.

Ability to stand at least 70 of the time.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Work near moving mechanical parts under 35 of the time.

Outdoor weather conditions/open air hangar under 35 of the time.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Able to travel up to 50 of the time, including overnight and weekend travel.
